TECHNOLOGY METALS

DESCRIPTION
It is amazing how soft Indium is in its pure form: Indium can be cut with a knife and you can even carve notches with your fingernails. However, if one tries to bend it, the crystals break. In numbers: Indium melts already at 156 °C, it passes into the gaseous state only at 2,080°C.
CHARACTERISTICS
Indium is a malleable shiny gray metal that has a fairly low melting point, i.e. it melts at a low temperature (156.60 °C). Chemically close to the Aluminum and the gallium, it is very rare. Indium becomes superconducting below 3.41 K.
In front of you there is a computer monitor, next to you lies a mobile phone, your living room is equipped with a super flat TV screen, and all these devices contain Indium. Indium is most frequently used for LCD panels: In this area, sales increased by 26% in 2009. But Indium is not only needed for the display technology. Indium compounds also play an important role in thin-film photovoltaics (solar cells technology, in particular CIGS thin-film process) and nanotechnology.
APPLICATION & USE
Because indium ingot has good light permeability and conductivity, the glassy compound (ITO) of high-purity indium oxide and tin oxide is used to make transparent and conductive electrodes in the plasma TV and LCD TV screen industries, and is also used as the sensitive element for some gas measurements. 70% of global indium consumption is used to produce ITO targets. Indium is used in • LCD monitors • Displays • Touchscreens • Mobile phones • Bearing in engines • Solar technology • Medical technology • LEDs.

OUTLOOK AND SITUATION
The market value of Standard Indium Ingot, 99.999% represents approximately 9200 US Dollars per kilogram. Contact us to get the best prices depending on the quantity requested.
The global Indium market is valued at 446.4 million USD in 2020 is expected to reach 589.3 million USD by the end of 2026.
In 2006, the entire world annual production of Indium was 600 tons. 230 tons of which were required only for the production of displays. The renowned Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research expects a dramatic increase in the annual demand of Indium to 2,000 tons in 2030. It would be very surprising if this rapid increase in the demand did not affect the price level.
